# Introduction

## Brief Introduction

Thanks for purchasing our products. The video encoder is mainly used for CCTV surveillance, IPTV live broadcast, WeMedia broadcast, major sports broadcast, remote teaching, tele-medicine, wedding ceremonies, video conference etc. It adopts high performance SOC which is capable of collection, compression and transmission of video and audio together. Integrated with H.265 video encoding algorithm, it can be better to transmit and save the videos by halving storage space and bandwidth. The embedded web server allows users to easily monitor and remotely control front-end video from browsers like IE, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc. If possible, it’s recommended to use Google Chrome directly.

The tested streaming media servers include Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Baidu Cloud, 163Yun, QINIU, AUDIANYUN, LE Cloud, MUDU.TV, Youtube and Wowza etc. It’s compatible with Hikvision’s NVR & CMS (iVMS-4200) and Dahua’s NVR & CMS (SmartPSS) by private protocols. Video protocols like TS stream, RTMP, HTTP, RTSP and ONVIF are all supported. It also supports AAC、G.711U and G.711A audio encoding.

* Right click the application and run as administrator;
* Select the corresponding language from the drop-down list (English, Polish, Russian, Japanese, German, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese are available for Windows. Only English for MAC version.)
* Click Next-->Next-->Install

## Configure IP via IPCManager

* Run IPCManager (If you already installed it)
* Enter username & password (admin & 12345 by default)
* Select the encoder you would like to set
* Click checkbox of DHCP-->Modification-->Close-->Refresh

## Access Encoder from a Browser

* Start a browser like IE, Chrome, Firefox (Chrome Recommended);
* Enter the IP address you configured above via IPCManager;
* Enter username (admin) and password (12345 by default);

# IPCManager

## What is the IPCManager?

As for encoders, IPCManager is just one tool designed for below:

* Searching encoders in the attached network;
* Quickly modifying IP addresses in batch;
* Upgrading the latest firmware for encoders in batch;
* Restoring the encoder to the default factory settings;
* Rebooting the encoder;
* Modifying the password;

# WIFI

## Configure WiFi

* Go to Setting-->Network-->WiFi-->Double Click Trusted SSID&#x20;
* Enter correct password to SSID and Click “Save”&#x20;
* Refresh and Link Status will be shown “Connected” below which means it’s already connected to WiFi. If disconnected, please try it again or check whether MAC address of this encoder is in the whitelist of your router.

## What is SRT?

SRT, the abbreviation of Secure Reliable Transport protocol, is an open source live streaming protocol which brings pristine quality, low latency live video over the public Internet.

## What is the main purpose of HDMI video encoder?

It’s primarily used for encoding audio and video from HDMI into network signal. The applicable industries are video surveillance like monitoring desktop of PC, live broadcasting and IPTV etc.

## Which NVRs can it be compatible with?

The encoder can be compatible with NVRs from Hikvision & Dahua by private protocol and it’s H.265 recording. But for NVRs from other brands, it can only be accessed by ONVIF protocol. Please note that NVR recording usually use audio by G.711, therefore it’s necessary to set G.711 for encoder, then it can be accessed by NVR. Rare NVRs can be compatible with AAC, like TP-LINK.

## What are commonly used addresses?

TS streaming media addresses:&#x20;

* <http://192.168.1.120:80/ts/1> (sub stream)&#x20;

RTSP streaming media addresses:&#x20;

## Why are settings set in IE (Internet Explorer) not saved?

It’s necessary to clear cache after setting the parameters in IE, or else all settings will not be valid; If you wouldn’t like to clear cache, it’s recommended to use Google Chrome instead, it will be valid immediately after clicking Save button. How should we clear cache in IE? Please see 1.3 or below screenshot:

## When can we use H.265 encoding?

In video surveillance, H.265 encoding can be used when connecting to NVRs from Hikvision and Dahua. Under network transmission, it’s no problem to use H.265 encoding only when streaming video by protocols of TS, RTSP and UDP.

## Why can we use only H.264 when live broadcasting? When can we use H.265 to do live broadcasting?

Currently RTMP standard protocol itself support H.264 only and Adobe already announced previously that it will be no more updates and maintenances for RTMP, that’s why H.265 is not available for RTMP. But it’s no problem for TS to do live broadcasting under H.265 encoding, which can be used for IPTV etc. however, the corresponding streaming media servers should be established by customers themselves. Generally, RTMP will be widely used for common live streaming platforms while TS stream will be used for private or self-established streaming platforms like IPTV.

## Can video and audio be encoded by encoder simultaneously?

Yes, it can

## How many seconds will be delayed when encoding?

Around 200ms

## What is the lowest voltage for the encoder?

12V, it’s recommended to use DC12V 2A power adapter.

## Can this encoder be powered by PoE?

Yes, HDMI video encoder with built-in POE can be powered directly by standard PoE switch(48W); But for basic encoders, you can also buy one POE splitter which get it powered by PoE.

## How does data of the encoder go?

Video & audio will be input from HDMI and output by RJ45, that’s why the primary purpose of encoder is to convert HDMI signal into IP signal and transmit it out.

## What is the maximum frames per second for this encoder?

Hi3516D can reach 1080P\@50fps while Hi3516A 1080P\@60fps

## How should we insert LOGO when streaming?

Insert LOGO from Setting->Video/Audio->OSD->Picture osd via Google Chrome. Also LOGO in 200\*200 & JPG only can be supported.

## Which live streaming platforms can be supported?

YouTube, Facebook Live, Wowza Streaming Engine, Twitch, USTREAM, LiveStream, Wirecast, vMix etc.

## What is maximum power consumption?

What is maximum power consumption?

## How many channels can be supported?

One channel only.

## Which operating systems does IPCManager not support?

XP & Win7 as the maintenance services are already stopped by Microsoft, therefore we won’t do more update and support.

## Does this encoder support video input by VGA, SDI, CVBS?

There is only one HDMI port for this encoder which doesn’t support video input by SDI and CVBS. But for VGA, you can buy one VGA to HDMI converter cable. For sure, if needed, we can help you with that.

## Can we use the Multicast either?

Yes, it can be set from Setting->Network->Multicast.

## How many languages can be supported by default for UI?

Only 2 by default: Simplified Chinese and English. And it can automatically recognize your system language and select languages accordingly.

## Can we stream live video simultaneously for main and sub stream?

Yes, but it’s necessary to set RTMP addresses respectively.

## What is the main difference for main stream and sub stream?

Main stream means higher resolution, primarily used for CCTV surveillance while sub stream means lower resolution for network transmission.

## Can live broadcast and surveillance be used simultaneously?

Yes, RTMP protocol will be used for live streaming while RTSP for surveillance, so it won’t be affected when simultaneously used.

## Which kind of NVR can support live streaming and surveillance as well as sound?

As far as we learned, only NVR from TP-Link can support AAC, while traditional manufacturers only support G.711, not AAC because of intellectual property. Besides, right now our encoder can be compatible with Hikvision’s NVR & CMS (iVMS-4200) and Dahua’s NVR & CMS (SmartPSS) by private Protocol.


# EDID

Compatibility of HDMI

## Why can it not detect the correct resolution especially when connecting to Camcorder?

It might be related to the compatibility issue of HDMI and it's strongly recommended to use 1080P instead of 1080i as the output resolution. Please follow below steps:

1. Power off the encoder and plug out the HDMI cable;
2. Try to set the output resolution for your camcorder like 1920\*1080(1080P);
3. Plug in the HDMI cable and power on the encoder;
4. Check whether it can detect the correct resolution;

If it still cannot detect the correct resolution or it's only 1080i for your camcorder, please follow below steps:

* Try to upgrade the encoder with latest firmware which might help;
* Try to buy one HDMI EDID emulator like [DIGITUS 4K HDMI EDID emulator](https://www.digitus.info/de/produkte/video-und-audio/video-konverter/da-70466/) which is verified by connecting to JVC camcorder;

## What is the EDID?

# Preview

## Why does it show like the below?

Go to Setting->Video/Audio->Video->Change Codec type from H.265 to H.264

## Why does it show "Video Loss"?

That means the encoder doesn't detect any video source and 1920x1080\@30HZ will be shown from Setting->System->System Status. In this case, please follow below steps which might help you:

* Power off the encoder;
* Clean both connectors of HDMI cable with industrial alcohol;
* Re-plug in the HDMI cable and power on the encoder;
* Check whether it can detect video source;

## What is network segment?

&#x20;A **network segment** is a portion of a [computer network](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_network). The nature and extent of a segment depends on the nature of the network and the device or devices used to interconnect end stations. For more details, please check [Network Segment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_segment) on Wikipedia.

## How should we make sure the encoder and PC are on the same network segment? Two ways as below:

1. Obtain IP via DHCP (If it's only one DHCP server in your local network);
2. Manually set IP by following the same network segment of your PC:

* Check all IP addresses of your PC by WIN+R ->cmd ->ipconfig/all
* Set IP like 192.168.**1**.XXX if it's shown like below photo:

## Why is it failed to access the camera from Chrome like below promts "This site can't be reached"?

That's probably related to the issue of network segment. In other words, the IP camera and your PC are not on the same network segment. For example, the current IP of IP Camera is *192.168.**1**.120* while the IP of your PC is *192.168.**2**.169*, then to make sure they're on the same network segment, you can either add one more segment for your PC or follow below instructions to obtain IP for IP camera via DHCP:

1. Run IPCManager(If you already installed it);
2. Search the IP Camera;
3. Click "DHCP" to obtain IP for IP camera via DHCP;

## How should we add one more network segment for the PC?

Please follow below steps:

* Right click the icon "WiFi" of your PC&#x20;
* Click "Open Network & Internet Settings"

## Why is it failed to login via IPCManager?

Probably the encoder is not on the same network segment of your PC.

## Why is it failed to obtain IP via DHCP?

Please follow below steps to check:

1. Double check whether the encoder is connected to the router correctly;
2. Double check whether the DHCP server is enabled in your router;
3. Check whether it can obtain IP via DHCP.

## Which kind of DNSs should we use when streaming?

It's recommended to use the DNS of your local largest ISPs or other DNS like Google in EU especially for encoders under wireless connection. Just because we're afraid the default DNS 8.8.8.8 might not be available in EU.


# WIFI

Only Available for WIFI Encoders

## Why is it failed to connect to WiFi?

Please follow below steps:

1. Double check whether the SSID is named after the combination with alphabets in English and numbers only;
2. Double check whether the password entered is correct;
3. Power off the encoder and plug out the ethernet cable to make WiFi valid.

# HTTP

## Can we change the URL name for TS?

Yes, it's okay to add more alphabets in English and numbers only at the end of /ts/.

## Can we change the URL name for HLS?

Yes, it's okay to add more alphabets in English and numbers only before .m3u8.

## What's H5?

To make it simple, that's you can access the encoder from PC and even your smartphone directly. But for smartphone, currently you can only access it but there might be no video which needs further optimization. Once updated, we'll let you know.


# RTSP

## How can we get lower latency via VLC when playing video on your iPad?

# RTMP

## What's the correct format of PUSH URL?

That's Stream URL/Stream Key(Take YouTube as example). Please note there is a "/" between Stream URL and Stream Key.

## Can we push Audio only?

Yes, but it's only supported in the new firmwares. If not available, please upgrade it into the latest firmware. After that, please go to Setting->Network->RTMP->Select Audio for Push Mode.

## Why cannot we stream live video to YouTube via WiFi encoder?

First of all, please take it easy and follow below steps to use the WiFi encoder:

1. Connect it to your local network via ethernet cable;
2. Connect it to WiFi by clicking the corresponding SSID of WiFi, enter password and save it to connect to WiFi;
3. Plug out the ethernet cable and make sure that it’s connected to WiFi only;
4. Power it off and reboot it;

:man\_mage: **Tips**: When streaming live video to YouTube or other media servers, it’s only supported to do that either wired connection or wireless connection, or else it doesn’t work if both connected. Besides, if you would like to switch the method of pushing video from wired to wireless, it’s necessary to plug out the Ethernet cable and power off to reboot the encoder first, then it will be changed to wirelessly push stream.

## Why cannot we still stream video to YouTube in the region of Europe when all settings are correct?

Please check if DNS is set correctly to EU. Right now the default DNS 8.8.8.8 might not be available in EU. Besides, it's recommended to use the DNS of your local largest ISPs or other DNS like Google in EU especially for cameras under wireless connection.

:man\_mage: **Tips**: One of our customers in Poland also did such settings with primary DNS 192.168.0.1 and leave secondary DNS as blank which also make it to push live video to YouTube. If possible, you can also try this.

## Can we use H.265 encoding when pushing streams by RTMP?

No, only H.264 encoding can be supported for RTMP. And Adobe said clearly before it will be no more update and maintenance for RTMP, that’s why RTMP and RTSP can only support H.264 encoding.

# Audio

## How should we set Audio?

AAC for live broadcasting, G.711U for video surveillance.

## Why does it not work to stream to YouTube when switching audio input from HDMI to Line-in?

It's necessary to reboot the device directly after that to make it valid because the encoding algorithm is switched accordingly which causes the audio will be pending.

## Why are there so much noises with Aux Audio?

It’s strongly recommended to use standard 3.5mm audio connector with two black circles on it like below photo and volume should be less than 80.

## Can we use external audio by 3.5mm and audio by HDMI?

Negative, either of them can be used.

## Can we change the input volume and sampling rate of line-in audio?

Yes, it's only supported in the new firmwares.

## How should we clear voice of current of encoder?

Please follow below steps:

* Get the audio source by playing music on your smartphone, it's just used for verifying there is no voice of current of encoder;&#x20;

## The difference between stereo, dual channel and mono

Assuming that the waveforms of the left and right channels of the dual channel are the same, there is no stereoscopic effect, and the effect is the same as that of the single channel. (That is to say, the two channels are not necessarily stereo.) When the waveforms of the left and right channels of the two channels are exactly the same, artificially creating a certain phase difference can create a wide sound field, making it three-dimensional, and artificially creating phase difference It is fixed, so this kind of stereo is called pseudo stereo. True stereo is two waveforms with completely different channels, each with a different phase difference every moment.

After understanding these principles, many novice problems can be easily solved.

### Is the recording in stereo or mono?

Since a microphone can only record two sound channels with exactly the same waveform, there is no difference between single and double sound recording. The only difference is that the available capacity for recording into a dual-channel hard disk becomes smaller.

### How to record in stereo?

Use a stereo microphone, or use two microphones to pick up the sound in different positions.

### Should I add a mono effector or a two-channel effector?

A dual-channel effector is equivalent to two effectors working. If a mono effector is connected to the stereo, there is no side effect. Generally, the effector that affects the phase will not have a mono plug-in. For example, you are in the MONO of WAVES. You can't find the delay plugin supertap 2-Tap Mod. It doesn't matter what is monophonic.

### What software can be used to eliminate the vocals in the song?

As mentioned in the previous theory, vocal cancellation is achieved through phase cancellation, so no software can really eliminate vocals, and the poor quality of the accompaniment is inevitable. The video encoder is mainly used for CCTV surveillance, IPTV live broadcast, WeMedia broadcast, major sports broadcast, remote teaching, tele-medicine, wedding ceremonies, video conference etc. It adopts high performance SOC which is capable of collection, compression and transmission of video and audio together. Integrated with H.265 video encoding algorithm, it can be better to transmit and save the videos by halving storage space and bandwidth. The embedded web server allows users to easily monitor and remotely control front-end video from browsers like IE, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc. If possible, it’s recommended to use Google Chrome directly.

The tested streaming media servers include Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Baidu Cloud, 163Yun, QINIU, AUDIANYUN, LE Cloud, MUDU.TV, Youtube and Wowza etc. It’s compatible with Hikvision’s NVR & CMS (iVMS-4200) and Dahua’s NVR & CMS (SmartPSS) by private protocols. # WIFI

Only Available for WiFi Encoders

## Configure WiFi

* Go to Setting-->Network-->WiFi-->Double Click Trusted SSID&#x20;
* Enter correct password to SSID and Click “Save”&#x20;
* Refresh and Link Status will be shown “Connected” below which means it’s already connected to WiFi. If disconnected, please try it again or check whether MAC address of this encoder is in the whitelist of your router.

1. The name of SSID can only include numbers and letters in English, or it might cause the failure of connection.
2. It's necessary to plug out the ethernet cable and power off the encoder to reboot it to make WiFi valid.
